Green Fair on the Fox is Aug. 9 at Riverwalk

Tired of having their event being mistaken for a fundraising walkathon, the Batavia Green Walk organizers have renamed the environmental event Green Fair on the Fox.

The name change was announced by Batavia MainStreet Friday. The organization, which promotes Batavia's downtown, sponsors the event. The city, the park district and the Batavia Environmental Commission are co-sponsors.

Green Fair on the Fox is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Batavia Riverwalk.

"We decided a name change would better capture the nature of the event," fair co-chairman Carolyn Burnham said in a news release.

It will feature a marketplace, a Zumba exercise class, an exhibit of bicycle polo, live music, demonstrations of environmentally friendly practices, and a transportation show where people can show off their cars, bicycles and other "green" vehicles.

The fair has a Facebook page, and a website, greenfaironthefox.com.

Green Fair on the Fox is looking for planning and day of event volunteers. To sign up, send an email info@greenfaironthefox.com.

The Green Walk began in 2008 as part of a Friday night downtown Arts Walk. It moved to a Saturday last year.
