Huntley blanks Jacobs; other games postponed

Focused. Chip on its shoulder.

However you want to describe Huntley's mood, the Red Raiders' girls soccer team was certainly ready for the postseason.

Scoring 5 first-half goals, the top-seeded Red Raiders blitzed fourth-seeded Jacobs 5-0 in semifinal action of the Class 3A Huntley regional Tuesday night. The game was called with only 1:22 elapsed in the second half because of lightning and thunderstorms.

The second game, scheduled between second-seeded Crystal Lake South and No. 3 seed Dundee-Crown was postponed and will be played Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The winner will play Huntley (16-6) Saturday at 5 p.m. for the regional crown.

"We know we had offensive issues coming into the playoffs," said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. "The girls were upset we lost out on the conference (Fox Valley Conference Valley Division) championship. Nothing against Cary-Grove and (Crystal Lake) South, we thought they were games we could win. We have been practicing at a high intensity rate and we were ready and focused tonight."

Huntley, which peppered Jacobs goalie Thea Robinson for 14 shots, got 2 goals from senior midfielder Jessica Helm.

"We have really been practicing hard and we were really focused tonight," said Helm. "Our goal is to make it to state and we know we have to be focused for every game."

Abigail Nordeen, Taryn Jakubowski and Deanna Hecht each scored a goal for the winners. Jakubowski, Abigale Enrici and Alyssa Kaufman contributed assists for the Red Raiders.

Huntley senior goalie Jessica Galason made saves on the 2 Jacobs shots.

Postponements: In addition to the CL South vs. Dundee-Crown game being postponed, so too were the matchups between Cary-Grove and Grant at the C-G regional and the Bartlett vs. Wheaton North game at the Rolling Meadows regional. Those games will each be played Wednesday at 5 p.m.
