Hoffman Estates student wins Congressional art contest

A senior at Hoffman Estates High School is the winner of the 2014 U.S. House art competition for the 8th Congressional District.

Marco Gomez, of Hoffman Estates, was chosen as the winner for his piece titled "Winter Solitude," which was done with pastel pencil. It will be displayed in the United States Capitol along with winning pieces from congressional districts across the country.

Six additional contestants will have their art displayed in the district and Washington, D.C. offices of 8th District U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth.

Officials say more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the Congressional Art Competition since 1982.
