Softball: Fox Valley roundup Saturday, May 17

Senior Paige Allen scattered 6 hits and struck out 6 batters Saturday as South Elgin's softball team upset Neuqua Valley 3-1 in an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division game in South Elgin.

Alen also went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Storm (14-12, 8-8) in the win, while Rachel Ziemba, Cassidy Westlund and Alyssa Buddle added an RBI each.

Burlington Central 2nd at IC: The Rockets defeated Morrison 3-0 in the semifinals then fell to Sterling 7-5 in eight innings in the championship game of the IC Catholic tournament in Elmhurst. In the win over Class 2A power Morrison, sophomore Emily Kisch scattered 6 hits and drove in a run for BC. Brooke Gaylord also had a 2-run single in the win. Kisch struck out 5 and didn't walk a batter in moving to 8-3 on the season. In the title game, Brooke Gaylord only gave up 3 earned runs but the Rockets' defense committed 45 errors. She struck out 6 and walked 3. Bekah Harnish went 2-for-3 with a home run and Kassidy Gaylord added a round-tripper for the Rockets (19-8). Courtni Neubauer was 3-for-3 and Shelby Young went 2-for-4 with a double.

Huntley splits: The Red Raiders beat Sycamore 5-4 but then lost to host Marengo 11-0 at the Marengo quad. Taylor Stone went 2-for-4 and Megan Baczewski was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, including the game-winning hit, in the win over Sycamore. Freshman Kateri Conklin picked up the win in relief of Haley Spannraft. Conklin (7-7) suffered the loss against Marengo and Shannon Walsh had a double for Huntley (16-13).

Cary-Grove splits: Jamie Deering drove in the winning run to make a winner of Lauren Stanley as Cary-Grove won Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader against DeKalb 3-2. Brianne Prank had a double and an RBI for the Trojans and Grace Pilz drove in a run. DeKalb came back to beat the Trojans (14-11) in the second game 4-2. Caitlyn Adams, Pilz, Prank and losing pitcher Amanda DeGroote each had 2 hits in the loss.

Lightning car wash: The Northern Illinois Lightning fastpitch softball organization will hold a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Algonquin State Bank, on the northeast corner of Randall Road and Huntington Drive in Algonquin (across Randall Road from the Bunker Hill entrance to Jacobs High School). Car washes are $5 and donations are appreciated.
