Former police officer, son convicted of murder

A former North Chicago police officer and his son have been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of the father's mistress.

Devin Bickham Sr., 42, and Devin Bickham Jr., 23, both of Blue Island, were convicted Thursday in the death of 29-year-old Chervon Alexander of Chicago. Cook County prosecutors say the woman was killed July 11, 2011 while sitting in a vehicle in River Forest.

A third man, 38-year-old Cardell Taylor, is awaiting trial.

Prosecutors say Alexander was killed after she began pressuring the older Bickham to divorce his wife and marry her.

Authorities say Bickham drove Alexander to a parking lot near Dominican University in River Forest, where Taylor shot her. The men were arrested as they fled the scene.
