Geneva downtown looking for summertime entertainers

The city of Geneva is going to pay up to $5,000 this summer to hire entertainers to perform in the downtown.

The Outdoor Music Geneva grants can be used for singers, musicians, mimes, jugglers and magicians. The money comes from taxes on hotel and motel stays.

"Businesses enjoy the program and are eager to partner with the city again this year to bring entertainment to downtown Geneva," Paul Evans, the city's business development specialist, said in a news release.

The maximum grant is $500 per event, and will be matched by sponsoring businesses.

Businesses can obtain a grant application packet at geneva.il.us/OMG. Priority will be given to applications that generate large crowds, reach a broad cross-section of people or encourage visitors to patronize Geneva's businesses. Performances must be free and open to the public.
