Quinn attends climate meeting in Iowa

SPRINGFIELD - Gov. Pat Quinn has attended another meeting of President Barack Obama's Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience.

The Chicago Democrat made a stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday. It was the third such meeting.

In a statement, Quinn says Illinois has faced a record number of natural disasters and he wants to make sure the state is prepared. He adds that he's set an example, including recently adding a chicken coop at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield to boost composting efforts and produce fresh eggs.

The event includes talks about readying urban and agricultural areas for flooding and drought.

The group was formed to advise Obama's administration on how the federal government can respond to the needs of communities that are dealing with impacts of climate change.
