Torrez tough, but Cougars fall
BELOIT, Wis. - Daury Torrez tossed his fourth quality inning of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Kane County Cougars fell 3-2 to the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field on Tuesday.
The Cougars (26-12) jumped out in front in the fifth inning when Jordan Hankins hit a lead-off double, moved over to third on David Bote's groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shawon Dunston Jr.
Torrez kept the Snappers (15-22) scoreless for 6 innings on 1 hit. But Beloit tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. A walk, an error, an intentional walk, a wild pitch and BA Vollmuth's 2-RBI single game the Snappers a 3-1 lead.
Junior Mendez (2-2) picked up the win with 2 scoreless innings of relief.
The Cougars will try to avoid a sweep of the three-game series today when they send Juan Paniagua (1-1, 4.44) against Lou Trivino (2-3, 4.34) at 6:30 p.m.
