Softball / Lake County roundup

The bus ride home from Zion-Benton hasn't been fun in recent years for Stevenson's softball team.

Different story Tuesday.

The Patriots scored five times in their last three innings, pounded out 18 hits, turned 2 double plays, didn't commit an error and beat Zion-Benton 12-9 in North Suburban Lake Division action.

"I think it's the first time these seniors have beaten these Zee-Bees," Stevenson coach Larry Friedrichs said. "Great game. The kids really kept at it."

Taylor Koenigs homered, doubled and singled for Stevenson (16-13, 4-5). Both Koenigs (3 runs, 2 RBI) and Vera Pflugradt (3 runs) went 3-for-5. Dana Morgan (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Kat Trotter (double) were both 3-for-4, and Abbey O'Connor was 2-for-4 with a 3-run double and 4 RBI.

On Monday, Stevenson's game at Lake Zurich was suspended due to lightning in the top of the fifth. The game will be resumed Friday.
