Sheriff: Iowa man caught with $340,000 in cocaine

A 36-year-old Iowa man was arrested with $340,000 worth of cocaine after a traffic stop at Interstate 88 and Route 47 Sunday, Kane County authorities said.

Mark A. Kidd, of the 3900 block of Eighth Street, Des Moines, faces up to 30 years in prison on felony cocaine possession charges, according to court records.

He was being held on $100,000 bail, meaning he must post $10,000 to be released while the charges are pending.

If Kidd tries to post bond, a hearing will be held to determine the money comes from legitimate sources, court records show.

According to Lt. Pat Gengler, spokesman for the Kane County sheriff's office, Kidd was stopped for a traffic violation at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday and 12 ounces of cocaine was found in his car. He also had more than $5,000 cash.

Kidd is next due in court May 28.
