Valparaiso University starts construction on new track

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Construction is underway at Valparaiso University on a new track and field complex for the northwestern Indiana school.

Crews recently broke ground on an eight-lane track named for former college athlete and high school track coach Warren G. Hoger at Brown Field.

The lead gift was given in honor of Hoger, who was inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1983.

The track will have an all-weather surface and will surround Brown Field, which currently hosts football and soccer games. It will include areas for high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, and steeplechase.

The complex will give the university the ability to host NCAA Division I track meets. It's expected to be completed in August.
