America has been good to Walgreen Co.

The Walgreen Co. was founded in 1901 by the late Charles Walgreen and has grown to what it is today. "We're America's premier pharmacy," It's slogan proudly proclaims. Walgreens is an imposing part of the Chicago-area business community. When a prime corner becomes available, a Walgreens store is likely to pop up.

Walgreens operates in all 50 states. I don't know what percentage of its business comes from U.S. sales, but I know it it's substantial.

Now this old American company is contemplating moving its corporate headquarters to somewhere in Europe to avoid U.S. taxes. What a shame. I can't help but wonder what Mr. Walgreen would think. Walgreens is free to do whatever it chooses, and so am I. When they move I will take my business elsewhere. Perhaps you will, too.
