Friday to highlight stretch of Michigan Avenue

Friday is the first day of a new initiative to offer discounted or free entertainment as a way to lure more people to a stretch of Michigan Avenue on the second Friday of every month.

Civic leaders and cultural advocates came up the idea to highlight what the section of Michigan Avenue from the Chicago River south to Roosevelt Road has to offer. The Chicago Cultural Mile Association spearheaded the effort.

A number of businesses and artists are collaborating for the day. The Cliff Dwellers Club is working with Jazz Institute of Chicago to put on special performances.

And the Fine Arts Building will open nearly 40 studios to the public, including dance performances. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is also offering discounted tickets for its Friday performance.
