Lake Zurich tops Lakes stays perfect in NSC

Matt Carmody slammed 7 kills, and Lake Zurich's boys volleyball team continued its perfect play in the North Suburban Conference with a 25-22, 25-13 win over host Lakes on Wednesday night.

Nate Amos and Brent Sweetwood added 4 kills apiece for the Bears, who improved to 18-7 and 8-0 in the NSC. Pat Bush dished out 14 assists, and Matt LoGalbo served 2 aces. Bush and Sweetwood each had 3 blocks.

Lakes was led by Dalton Solbrig's 8 kills and 7 digs. Richard Galat (10 digs) and Dakota Mathex had 4 and 3 kills, respectively, for the Eagles. Colton Jewell lofted 10 assists.

Vernon Hills d. Zion-Benton: The Cougars won 25-22, 27-25 to remain a game back of Lake Zurich in the North Suburban.

Vernon Hills (14-7) is 7-1 in the NSC.

"The guys played with such better focus and intensity tonight than we did early in the season," Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. "The seniors are rising to the challenge. Tyler Small is working his butt off. Max (Spiglanin) and Mike (Heinz) both played great defense, passed serve over a 2-point rating all night, and were so smart on the attack. Ryan (Opitz) is finding his timing with the hitters."

Grant d. Antioch: Brock Lundman and Mitch Meier each had 8 kills, and the Bulldogs outlasted the Sequoits 25-19, 21-25, 28-26 in a North Suburban thriller.

Tony Catinella set 52 of 52 with 13 assists for Grant, and he also served 4 aces.

Warren d. Stevenson: Mitch Maan de Kok's 9 kills led the Blue Devils, who won 25-19, 25-17 in North Suburban action.

Arvind Kouta collected 16 assists for Warren (16-8, 5-1), while Bryant Holland had 4 kills and 3 blocks. AJ Ceisel led the Blue Devils with 9 digs, and Maan de Kok delivered 3 aces.

Stevenson (11-15, 2-5) got 5 kills from Josh Cliffer and three apiece from Connor Perlin and Grant Maleski.

Lake Forest d. Mundelein: The Mustangs lost 25-16, 25-16 in North Suburban play, despite Sam Nelson's 9 kills.

Mundelein (12-14, 4-3) also received 4 kills from Luke Ramer.

Libertyville d. North Chicago: Marc Laska had 6 kills in the Wildcats' 25-18, 25-8 win in North Suburban action.
