Republicans pick 43rd District candidate

Republicans picked Elgin attorney Jeff Meyer to run for state representative in the 43rd District.

Meyer, 32, a partner in the law firm Smith & Meyer, vies for the seat vacated by the resignation of Democrat Keith Farnham, who is facing child pornography charges.

He faces Rep. Anna Moeller, of Elgin, a former city council member, who was appointed by Democrats to fill Farnham's seat.

Meyer is a Republican precinct committeeman and is the chairman of the Elgin Township Republican Central Committee. He and his wife, Courtney, have a son, Zachery.

He said he believes the state needs to start living within its means once again.

"We deserve better representation in Springfield," Meyer said. "Whether it's our school funding, public pensions, taxes or jobs, Illinois is going in the wrong direction. We pay too much for too little, while Chicago politicians dole out the proceeds."
