Softball: Fox Valley roundup Monday, May 5

Huntley 3, Prairie Ridge 2: Brittany Koss (2-for-3, 2 RBI) had the game-winning walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning as Huntley (13-7, 4-2) won its seventh straight in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game. Megan Larson had a solo home run for the Red Raiders, while Kateri Conklin picked up the win in the circle, allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.

CL South 6, Jacobs 5: Singles by Kimmy Woods, Sam McLean (3-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI) and Taylor Kassel (RBI) and 2 errors allowed the Gators to score twice in the bottom of the seventh and win this FVC Valley game. Winning pitcher Hailee Massie (10 hits, 7 Ks, 4 BBs) also went 2-for-4 at the plate for Crystal Lake South (9-9, 2-4). For Jacobs, Alyssa Lach was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while Emily Borg (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Katie Borchert (2B) also contributed. Courtney Cotugno suffered the loss in the circle in relief of Kelsey Peters for the Golden Eagles (12-8, 2-5).

St. Edward 6, Rosary 3: Winning pitcher Lindsay Zdroik (8-6) allowed just 6 hits with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks and had 2 doubles and an RBI at the plate to lead the Green Wave (11-8, 5-4) to a Suburban Christian Blue win, St. Edward's third straight win and fourth in its last 5 games. Allison Stratman (2 RBI) and Jasmine Deleon each went 2-for-3 for the Wave.

Hampshire 9, Woodstock North 1: Sara Finn was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead a Hampshire offense that knocked out 14 hits in this FVC Fox win. Haley Widmayer (2B, 2 RBI), Aly Snider (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Becca Hurst (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Ellie Lapi (2-for-3, RBI) also had big bats for the Whip-Purs (15-9, 6-0). Widmayer allowed 4 hits with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn the win in the circle. The win, coupled with Grayslake North's 2-1 win over Crystal Lake Central, puts Hampshire alone in first place in the FVC Fox.

Bartlett 15, Metea Valley 1: Katie Fornoff was 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI to lead the Hawks (20-5, 9-3) to a five-inning Upstate Eight Valley win. Alex Morales (2B, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Holly Pagan (2B, 3B, 4 RBI) and Sydney Johnson (2B) also contributed to the Bartlett offense. Pagan (14-4) allowed 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks in 3 innings of work in the circle.

Burlington Central 13, Rockford Christian 0: Courtni Neubauer threw a 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Rockets (11-6, 6-1) to a Big Northern East win. Kristina Ahlers (2-for-2, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) and Kelly Wiater (HR, 3 RBI) led the BC offense.

Westminster splits: Becca Fugiel went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI to lead the Warriors to a 9-8 win in Game 2 and a split of a nonconference doubleheader. Sarah Schmitt (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and winning pitcher Rachel Fugiel (2-for-4, 2B) also contributed to the offense in Game 2. The Warriors (6-8) fell in the opener 8-6, making 6 errors. Losing pitcher Becca Fugiel, who allowed just 3 hits, had a double and 2 RBI.
