Macahon, Palatine come through against Hoffman Estates

Host Hoffman Estates missed getting an out of a rundown with two outs in the sixth inning, and Palatine's Chris Macahon made them pay.

Macahon accounted for most of the game's scoring with a 3-run homer, the game-winning hit in Palatine's 4-1 victory in Mid-Suburban League baseball on Monday.

Starters Alexander Breytenbach of Palatine and Ethan Bloom of Hoffman Estates weren't giving up much through the early innings.

The Hawks (7-12-1, 3-7) scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Nolan Gavin relieved Breytenbach and earned a save.

Palatine got its first run in the second inning, when Brad Bauer doubled with two outs and scored on a Joey Roy single.

Barrington 11, Conant 1 (5): The host Broncos plated 4 runs in the fourth inning and 6 more in the fifth inning to get past the Cougars.

Mitch Pfeiffer went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and Daniel Kubiuk had 2 hits, including a double, to lead a 12-hit attack for Barrington (20-6, 8-2).

Wyatt Trautwein allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts to earn the victory.

Prospect 6, Rolling Meadows 5: The host Knights climbed into a first-place tie with Elk Grove in the Mid-Suburban East by edging the visiting Mustangs.

Prospect improved to 14-7-1 overall and 7-3 in the East, while Meadows dropped to 10-11 and 6-4.

Schaumburg 12, Fremd 2: The host Vikings weren't able to keep pace with the visiting Saxons, thanks mainly to 9 Schaumburg hits (all singles) combined with 10 Fremd errors.

Marcus Middlebrook had the game's only extra-base hit, a double, for Fremd (10-10, 5-5) as Brad Schwind earned a victory for Schaumburg.

Buffalo Grove 4, Elk Grove 2: Bison starter Justin Hasek gave up only 2 hits in a complete game victory for the host Bison.

Jeremy Firszt doubled twice and drove in 2 runs, and Andrew Cole had a pair of hits to lead the plate production for BG (7-14, 2-8).

Josh Bergbreiter and Johnny Assimakopoulos had the hits for Elk Grove (14-7, 7-3).

St. Viator 5, St. Patrick 4: The Lions (17-7, 4-4) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out an East Suburban Catholic Conference victory.

Matt Darling doubled twice and drove in 2 runs for St. Viator, while Matt Prazuch, Pete Meyer and Joe McCollum had 2 hits apiece.

Lions starter Jack McElroy allowed 2 earned runs in 4 innings, and Matt O'Neill allowed 1 run in 3 innings and earned a win.

• St. Viator split a pair of games with Benet Academy over the weekend.

In a 5-4 Lions loss, St. Viator rallied with 3 runs in the top of the seventh as Bobby Calmeyn (2 hits, walk, 2 steals) enjoyed a productive game.

In an 8-7 victory, St. Viator did all its scoring in the final 3 innings, inlcuding a 3-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Prazuch and Kevin Monson each had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs, and Jason Wilhite got a win in relief.

Christian Liberty 17, Schaumburg Christian 13: Aiden Miller doubled twice, Peter Grob had a trile and Christian Liberty produced 20 hits to make a winner of Tom Keplar in nonconference play.
