Baseball/DuPage County roundup Saturday, May 3

Lisle 4, Aurora Christian 3:

The Lions (12-9) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to seize the nonconference victory. After an error tied the game, Alex Sokolowski's sacrifice fly won it. Three pitchers combined on the mound capped by Ryan Joyce's scoreless seventh to pick up the win.

Wheaton North 7-6, Glenbard East 6-7:

The Falcons (10-9, 6-4) claimed the first DuPage Valley Conference game in 14 innings as Mike Muto drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly. Greg Scandora and Zach Leander had 3 hits apiece. Stephen Crane's 5 relief innings earned the win. Tyler Behrendt and Michael Sebby had 3 hits for Glenbard East (9-12, 3-7). Scott Borosak and Tommy Mogavero drove in 2 runs for the Rams in the Game 2 win. Anthony Esterly was the complete-game winner.

Willowbrook 8, Leyden 4:

Brian Johnson went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI in the West Suburban Gold victory for the Warriors (13-5, 8-3). Tyler Zunkel, Mike Rothmund and winning pitcher Jake Cady had 2 hits.

Wheaton Academy 2, St. Edward 1:

The Warriors (9-10, 4-7) scored the game-winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning in their Suburban Christian Conference victory. Complete-game winner Austin Ebeling struck out eight. Tanner Philipps went 2-for-3.

Lake Park 6, Naperville North 5:

A back-and-forth DuPage Valley Conference matchup finally went to the Lancers (8-10, 4-6) after they scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. Lake Park took a 5-4 lead with a 3-run top of the seventh, but Naperville North (7-10, 3-7) sent the game to extra innings to extra innings with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Metea Valley 2-8, West Chicago 1-4:

The Mustangs (11-8, 7-5) opened the Upstate Eight Conference sweep by scoring the game-winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh. Winning pitcher Jack Szott went 2-for-3. Christian Howell went the distance as the Game 2 winner, bolstered by Sam Hanson's 2 hits and 2 RBI. Antonio Solis went 2-for-3 in the first game and Dave Kordik did the same in the second game for West Chicago (8-12, 4-11).

Neuqua Valley 7-19, East Aurora 7-4:

The Wildcats (12-9, 11-5) capped a three-game sweep in the Upstate Eight Conference. Kevin Hutt went 3-for-4 in the opener while Matt Peters drove in 4 runs in the second game. Brett Hamilton and Logan Vlk were the winning pitchers.

Timothy Christian 6, Riverside-Brookfield 5:

The Trojans (5-13, 2-10) scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to salvage the third and final game of the Metro Suburban Conference series. Carter Johnson and Jeff Voss singled in runs to tie it, and an error allowed the winning run to score. Connor Loughead was the winning pitcher.

York 13, Glenbard West 3:

The Dukes (10-11, 6-5) scored all their runs in the final three innings of the five-inning West Suburban Silver victory. Winning pitcher Anthony Santos went 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Jack Polte and Phil Schlitter each had 2 RBI. Drew Vogg and Will Simoneit went 2-for-2 for Glenbard West (13-8, 7-4).

Downers South 10, Hinsdale South 3:

A 6-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as the Mustangs (13-4, 11-0) stayed unbeaten in the West Suburban Gold. Winning pitcher Chris Pedrak went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI. Danny Oriente also homered. Joe Jablonski went 2-for-4 for Hinsdale South (9-9, 7-4).

West Aurora 5, Glenbard North 4:

Alex Barrett, Eric Orze, Sam Ledbetter and Luke Greenberg all had 2 hits, but the Panthers (12-8, 7-3) fell in the DuPage Valley Conference.

Oswego East 6, Glenbard South 4:

Oswego East scored all its runs in the second inning of the nonconference game. Will Cornwell and Alex McGimpsey had 2 hits for Glenbard South (15-4).

Clemente 9, Montini 3:

Jake Pestel went 3-for-4 with a double and triple, and Rhett Wojkovich homered for the Broncos (14-2) in the nonconference loss.

Morton 11, Addison Trail 8:

Joe Kurucar went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Blazers (4-16, 3-11) in the West Suburban Gold defeat.

Hinsdale Central 20, Proviso East 1:

The Red Devils (11-10) blew open the West Suburban Conference crossover with a 13-run first inning. Matt Muellner, Jacob White and Ben Chapman each homered and combined for 6 RBI. Matt Bruns doubled and drove in 3 runs. Nick Senicka won on the mound.
