Lake Zurich keeps grip on NSC lead

Matt Carmody pounded 8 kills, as Lake Zurich's boys volleyball team maintained sole possession of first place in the North Suburban Conference with a 25-22, 25-18 win over Libertyville on Friday night.

Nick Meyer added 5 kills for Lake Zurich (16-7, 7-0), while Andrew Gilbertson and Brent Sweetwood had four apiece. Pat Bush dished out 24 assists and led the defense with 14 digs. Michael Savio added 12 digs for the Bears.

Libertyville fell to 3-3 in the NSC.

Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: Junior middle blocker Jack Brandl had 2 kills and 3 block kills for the Cougars in their 25-15, 25-16 win.

Coach Chris Curry said Tyler Small was "his usual, reliable self" with 3 kills and 2 aces. Adam Weinberg led the defense for Vernon Hills (13-7, 6-1 North Suburban) with 6 digs.
