Caregiver accused of identity theft

A Lake in the Hills woman who worked as a home health nurse stole the identity of her patients and opened multiple bank accounts, police said.

In August 2013, an elderly McHenry County couple told police that someone had opened electronic banking accounts in their name, which result in fraudulent transfer of money and other fraudulent payments, the McHenry County sheriff's office said in a release. Through the course of the investigation, the couple received an anonymous phone call threatening to kill them if they didn't drop the investigation.

Sarah Jane R. Hulbert, 31, was arrested Tuesday. She was charged with aggravated identity theft, forgery, harassment of a witness, intimidation, computer fraud.

Her bond was set at $75,000 bond, and she's scheduled to appear in court on May 9.
