Wauconda Middle students perform 'Jungle Book'

Elephants, bears and monkeys danced around the stage as Wauconda Middle School students performed "Disney's The Jungle Book Kids" on Wednesday for the rest of the school.

The Wauconda Middle School Fine Arts Department is performing two plays this year - the musical "Disney's The Jungle Book Kids," adapted from the Rudyard Kipling book, followed by a second play, a one-act family comedy called "The Roomers" by Jerome McDonough.

"They are having a wonderful time," musical director Carolyn Anderson said. "They have really come to love their characters."

Children sang and danced to memorable songs such as "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You" from the Disney movie.

In the second short play, "The Roomers," the story is set in a small apartment building filled with a group of strange personalities.

"It's very fun. It's like being with a family," said seventh-grader Kristen Settles, who plays the part of Kristen. "It's a comedy so it is always funny."

Public performances for "Disney's The Jungle Book Kids" and "The Roomers" will be in the school gymnasium Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m. Wauconda Middle School is at 215 Slocum Lake Road, Wauconda.

Maksim Kadukov plays Colonel Hathi while leading his herd of elephants around the stage as Wauconda Middle School students performed "Disney's Jungle Book Kids" Wednesday at the school. The play will be presented for the public Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. Gilbert R. Boucher II/gboucher@dailyherald.com
