Des Plaines blood drive on Saturday

The Des Plaines Fire Department is offering a free bowl of firehouse chili to anyone who participates in a community blood drive on Saturday, officials said.

Held in conjunction with Operation North Pole and Lifesource Blood Services, the fire department blood drive is being held to help alleviate shortages after this winter, said Fire Chief Alan Wax.

The drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station #3, 130 E. Thacker St. To schedule a donation, contact Lifesource at (877) 543-3768. Walk-ins are also welcome.
