Fundraiser takes participants back to Roaring Twenties

The Roaring Twenties will come to life when the Naperville Heritage Society presents its annual wine dinner fundraiser, Naper Wine & Dine, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Sullivan's Steakhouse, 244 S. Main St. in downtown Naperville.

"With the recent release of 'The Great Gatsby' movie, we thought it would fun to add a little 1920s glamour to the event with the menu and the live auction items," said Ginia Goggio, development associate at Naper Settlement.

The five-course menu was developed by Sullivan's Executive Chef Cein Cid and Sous Chef Peter Han and features classically inspired dishes such as shrimp cocktail; Consommé Olga (a famous soup served aboard the Titanic), Waldorf salad; a tender steak served with Duchess potatoes; and a raspberry mousse pound cake for dessert. Each course is paired with a complementary wine from Wente Vineyards.

The evening also includes a live and silent auction.

"We are grateful for Sullivan's continued, outstanding support of Naper Wine & Dine, which we look forward to every year," Naper Settlement President and CEO Mike Krol said.

Sullivan's Steakhouse was inducted into the Heritage Hall of Honor in 2012 in recognition of its being a longtime business partner, as well as a leader and role model in supporting Naper Settlement, the outdoor history museum, administered by the Naperville Heritage Society.

On a historic note, Sullivan's Steakhouse shares a common bond with Naper Settlement. The restaurant is located on the same spot where the original Pre-Emption House was constructed in 1834, which was the first and oldest hotel west of Chicago. Today, a replica of the Pre-Emption House serves as Naper Settlement's Visitor Center.

Tickets for Naper Wine & Dine are $175 and support education programs and historic preservation at Naper Settlement. Call (630) 420-6016 or email goggiog@naperville.il.us.
