Taylor Y registering new and returning swimmers for team

Registration for new and returning Taylor YMCA Pelicans swim team will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Y, 50 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin.

"All swimmers are welcome to join the Pelicans swim team, but must keep in mind the following," said Head Coach Brigitta Kempken: all swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool freestyle and one length of the pool backstroke and have a positive team attitude; all swim team members must be members of the Prairie Valley Family YMCA - Taylor Branch. This is a Y-USA Competitive sports rule.

"The Pelicans compete in both YMCA and ISI/USA Swimming meets. Participation in ISI/USA Swimming is optional. There is an additional fee for ISI/USA Swimming registration and meet entries," Kempken said.

Swimmers will be placed in practice groups and lanes depending on their skill level. New swimmers must be evaluated by the head coach to determine the practice group that will best fit their abilities and provide a challenge.

Swimmers not able to make April 23 registration date must make arrangements with the head coach for evaluation.

Registration forms can be found at www.elginpelicans.org or can be completed at registration. Swim team payments can be made in full or partial payments. Discounts are available for families with three or more swimmers.

Yellow: Practices one hour, three times per week. This group is for all swimmers from beginner to intermediate. Meets are not required, but home meets are recommended.
