Man admits igniting estranged wife's apartment
BENTON, Ill. - A southern Illinois man faces a July sentencing after pleading guilty to felony charges linked to his alleged attempt to kill his estranged wife in a fire.
WSIL-TV reports that 39-year-old Mark Hensley of Sesser pleaded guilty Monday in Franklin County to charges of aggravated arson and home invasion. Prosecutors dropped two counts of attempted murder in exchange for Hensley's plea.
Authorities have said Hensley was armed with a gun in October 2012 when he entered a Christopher apartment building, went after his wife and then set the building on fire.
The wife and other occupants of the building escaped serious injury.
Hensley's sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 10.
