Closed Mount Prospect banquet hall has new owner

Bristol Court banquets, a well-known celebration spot in Mount Prospect that closed abruptly last month, has a new owner, according to village officials.

Monty's Elegant Banquets of Bensenville has acquired the building at 828 E. Rand Road and will open a new banquet hall there called Bristol Palace, Mount Prospect Community Development Director Bill Cooney said.

"It's good news for sure," he said. "It looks like a case where someone saw a good opportunity at that location and took advantage of it."

Cooney said the new owner is seeking a liquor license for the business, a process that could take several months. In the meantime, the building is undergoing some interior renovations, he said.

Monty's Elegant Banquets is located at 703 S. York Road in Bensenville. The company's website states that it has hosted more than 4,000 wedding receptions "along with many of our region's most notable corporate and professional organizations."

Representatives from Monty's could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

Cooney said he expects that Bristol Place will offer services similar to those that were offered at Bristol Court.

Bristol Court was a prominent business in Mount Prospect. It hosted the village's annual Celestial Celebration banquet for years, as well as other private and corporate events.

In March, the business closed suddenly with no explanation. The closing was so sudden, in fact, that it left a number of people seeking legal help to recover deposits they'd handed over for future events.
