Home of nation's 9th president acquires portrait

VINCENNES, Ind. - The foundation that oversees the home where President William Henry Harrison lived as Indiana's territorial governor now has a portrait painted just before his death on display.

The Grouseland Foundation bought the oil painting in a 2012 art auction but didn't put it on display at the house in Vincennes until this week as it worked to finalize a donation to pay for it.

Foundation executive director Lisa Ice-Jones tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial (http://bit.ly/1jxY3Ex ) she believes having the portrait helps validate the house as a presidential home site.

Harrison was the Indiana Territory governor in the early 1800s. The portrait was painted in early 1841 about the time he was sworn in as the country's ninth president, although he died 32 days later from complications from pneumonia.
