Judge makes ruling in Kankakee-area pipeline leak

KANKAKEE, Ill. - Attorney General Lisa Madigan says a Kankakee County judge has ordered two pipeline operators to help her office investigate a 1,500-gallon petroleum gas spill last month.

Madigan's office said Friday that a judge has ordered Wood River Pipe Lines LLC and Buckeye Partners LP to provide her office and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency with reports on cleanup work at the site. The spill happened in Kankakee County near Route 113 on March 14.

The attorney general also says the judge ruled that the companies must submit proposals for monitoring and remediating contaminated soil and groundwater. The judge's order also requires the companies to test for contaminated well water and monitor the Kankakee River for any petroleum sheen.
