Naperville North gets a boost with win

Naperville North got a much-needed girls soccer victory Thursday, defeating Wheaton North 4-0 in Wheaton.

The defending Class 3A champion Huskies are struggling a little at the start of this season after losing eight of 11 starters.

"There are a lot of kids that are trying to find their way, where they fit," Huskies coach Steve Goletz said. "There's going to be some growing points, but we'll be OK. Eventually, we'll be OK. I've got some good young kids coming up, so that's good."

Meghan Lee scored first for the Huskies, and junior Claire Hilburger made it 2-0 going into halftime off a Maddie Krecji assist.

Abbie Boswell added a second-half goal before Hilburger and Krejci combined again to give the Huskies (2-2-1, 1-1 DuPage Valley Conference) a four-goal lead.

"Maddie Krecji for sure as a sophomore today played her best game hands down all season," Goletz said. "She was great up top for us at holding the ball and being dangerous. She generated two goals for us and almost had one herself."

Hilburger continues to work her way back from a serious leg injury suffered in Collinsville last season.

"She's starting to come back, playing 30-40 minutes a game and we're trying to work her back in," Goletz said. "She finished two great goals and that's what your upperclassmen need to do. She was in the right place and the right time and those were two great finishes."

Goalkeeper Fiona Baenzinger earned her third shutout of the season for the Huskies.
