Palatine powers past CL South

Zach Serna homered and drove in 3 runs, and Matt Saltess doubled and drove in 3 more to help host Palatine past Crystal Lake South 11-6 in nonconference play Wednesday.

Saltess finished 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored for the Pirates, who were outhit 12-10.

Serna had a pair of steals, while Saltess and Shane Devero had 1 apiece.

Alexander Breytenbach earned the victory, and Matthew Trembley tossed 1⅓ innings of scoreless relief. Palatine's biggest inning was the first, when it plated 5 runs.

Rolling Meadows 13, Niles North 3 (6): Kevin Montero doubled twice and finished with 3 hits and 4 RBI as the Mustangs produced 14 hits in a 6-inning triumph.

Erik Schurtz went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, while Alex Niecikowski, Eric D'Souza and Sean O'Brien had 2 hits each.

Brett Gibson tossed a complete game for Meadows, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits.

Prospect 3, Glenbard East 3: Grant Gerdes went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, but the Knights and Rams couldn't decide a winner after 8 innings in nonconference play.

Mike Smith allowed 3 earned runs in 4⅔ innings for Prospect, with Tony Gattuso and Danny Devereux providing scoreless relief stints.

New Trier 12, St. Viator 11: Matt Darling and Ben Dickey both doubled and drove in 2 runs, but it wasn't quite enough in a slugfest with the host Trevians.

Matt Prazuch, Bobby Calmeyn, Pete Meyer and Jack Napoleon each had 2-hit afternoons for the Lions.

New Trier led 8-2 after the fourth inning, but St. Viator got back in it with a 7-run fifth inning.

Glenbrook South 10, Schaumburg 1: Ryan Woloszyk drove in Brad Schwind with the only run for the Saxons in the first inning as visiting Schaumburg suffered a nonconference defeat. Cody Carroll had 3 hits, including a homer, and finished with 5 RBI as the Titans produced 11 hits to make a winner of Mike Lenckos.

Elk Grove 8, Deerfield 3: Josh Bergbreiter double, homered and scored 3 runs to lead Elk Grove's in a nonconference win against the visiting Warriors.

Adam O'Malley had 3 hits, including a double, for the Grens (5-2), who stole 5 bases.

Daryl Rivera earned the win after allowing no runs and 3 hits with 5 strikeouts in 3⅓ innings.

Woodstock North 6, Christian Liberty 1: The visiting Chargers managed just 1 hit as Dylan Antonides suffered a nonconference setback.
