Heroin meetings planned across Illinois

SPRINGFIELD - A new Illinois House task force on heroin plans to hold several public hearings across the state this spring.

The move comes after the Illinois House voted last week to declare a "heroin state of emergency" in Illinois. The resolution passed unanimously. It also asks the legislature to develop a plan to address the drug problem in the state.

Democratic state Rep. Lou Lang is chairman of the task force. He says it's "clear what we're doing now is failing."

The first hearing is scheduled for April 15 in Chicago.

Lang says the panel aims to draft a legislative agenda on the issue that worries both families and law enforcement.
