New playground equipment coming to Des Plaines park

A public forum is scheduled for April 21 to discuss the renovation of McKay-Nealis Park in Des Plaines, park district officials said.

The public will be able to review and provide input on a proposed conceptual design for a new playground at the park, located at 1755 S. Maple St. The park district is planning to seek bids on new equipment, demolition and excavation of the site, and construction of the new playground.

Kids Around the World, a not-for-profit faith-based organization in Rockford, will remove the existing play structure, refurbish it, and install it in an economically depressed country, officials said. Work at the park is expected to begin in mid-August and be complete in September.

The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. April 21 in the board room at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St.
