Body found in Evanston could be that of missing Des Plaines woman

Des Plaines police are working with Evanston and Cook County authorities to determine whether a body discovered Sunday along Lake Michigan is that of a 61-year-old Des Plaines woman missing since late February.

Evanston police said the body of an adult woman was spotted among the rocks in Lake Michigan by a person walking along the shore about 11:45 a.m. Sunday near Clark Sheridan Park on the 800 block of Sheridan Road.

The body was recovered from the water and transported to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which is working with police to determine the cause of death and the identity of the woman.

Des Plaines police said they are supplying the medical examiner's office with medical records and other information to help determine whether the body is that of Debra Fredricksen, a Des Plaines woman who was reported missing by her husband Feb. 22.

Police found her car in Evanston that same night and had searched the area for additional clues and possible witnesses who may have seen her.

Authorities said Fredericksen was last seen Feb. 21 in the drive-through of a McDonald's restaurant in Morton Grove. Foul play was not suspected.

Evanston police said an identification likely will not be made until Monday at the earliest.
