Peoria man sentenced to 40 years for wife's death

PEORIA - A 31-year-old central Illinois man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2013 shooting death of his wife.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports Matthew A. Malcom was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to a single count of first-degree murder. His plea was part of a deal with prosecutors.

Thirty-one-year-old Heather Malcom died in February 2013. An autopsy showed she died from a single shotgun wound to the head.

Prosecutors say the Peoria couple had been arguing before the shooting.
