LZ remains unbeaten
McKenna Larson homered and Olivia Schneider struck out 10 batters, as Lake Zurich's softball team stayed undefeated with a 4-1 win over host Grayslake North on Wednesday.
Larson finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Brittney Pettinger, Maddie Minneci, Maria Schroeder and Amanda Guercio (double) each had a pair of hits for Lake Zurich (5-0). Schneider allowed only 4 hits, all singles.
Kayla Switalla went 1-for-3 and drove in the only run for Grayslake North.
Antioch 9, Palatine 3: Hannah Skoog went 3-for-4 with a triple and 5 RBI, and Jessica Pedersen was 3-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBI to lead the Sequoits to the nonconference win.
Antioch (1-1) also got 2 hits apiece from Sage Keyes (double, 2 RBI) and Jessica Tyrell (2 stolen bases). Freshman Annie Wagner pitched all 7 innings for the win, allowing no earned runs.
Glenbrook North 10, Stevenson 9: The Patriots dropped the nonconference road game, despite 2-run homers from Jordan Cortesi in the second and Abby O'Connor in the sixth.
Trisha Porzycki went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Stevenson (1-4). O'Connor, Cortesi, Taylor Koenigs, Dana Morgan and Kat Trotter all doubled. The Spartans trailed 9-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh. They scored the winning run on a one-out RBI single.
Waukegan 6, Grayslake Central 5: Brandy Heraty homered and drove in 2 runs for the host Rams in their nonconference loss.
Skyler Long was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Grayslake Central (4-3), which also got a double from Theresa Curtis.
Araceli Cruz had a homer and 3 RBI for Waukegan.
Fremd 12, Mundelein 9: The visiting Vikings scored 4 runs in the fifth to wipe out a 9-8 deficit en route to the nonconference win.
Mundelein (1-3) got a home run and 4 RBI from Maria DeVito, who went 3-for-4. Brittany Woodyard was 4-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Mustangs, while Amanda Diaz doubled twice. Maddie Zazas had a double and 3 RBI, and Maggie Mahar also hit a double for Mundelein.
Lakes 9, Carmel 2: The Eagles captured the nonconference win, as Ashley Horner tripled and knocked in 3 runs, and Kate Hohenstatt had 4 hits.
Lakes also received doubles from Montana Mang and Cassidy Schaar. Hohenstatt and Mang had 3 and 2 RBI, respectively, and Taylor Dishinger went the distance in the circle.
Carmel got 2 hits apiece from Amy Abel and Dani Delozier. Abel doubled, and Emma Bartz tripled.
