Mount Prospect man charged after police chase

A 25-year-old Mount Prospect man has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and several other violations after he led police on a brief chase while driving in the wrong lanes of traffic through parts of West suburban Riverside early Sunday, police said.

Rafael P. Arellano, of the 600 block of West Pickwick Court, was arrested after a chase that began at 4:28 a.m. Sunday when a police officer on patrol spotted him driving westbound on Ogden Avenue in the eastbound lanes, Riverside police said.

According to police, the officer pulled up alongside the 2009 Ford pickup truck Arrellano was driving but was unable to get him to stop for about five blocks, and only then by pulling his car in front of the pickup truck and blocking it.

Police said Arellano failed all sobriety testing and his blood-alcohol level was .123, above the legal limit of .08. Arellano also vomited numerous times while in custody, police said.

He was charged with felony aggravated DUI, driving while license suspended, driving in wrong lane and several other traffic charges.
