Man killed in two-vehicle crash near Mundelein

A 49-year-old Mundelein man has died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Midlothian Road, authorities said.

Brian Martin was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5 p.m., Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said. Martin appears to have died from traumatic injuries suffered in the crash, Portillo said.

A Countryside Fire Protection District ambulance responded about 4:27 p.m. to the crash on Midlothian Road just south of Wortham Drive. Martin, the driver of a four-door sedan, was taken in critical condition to Condell, Countryside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ed Heinz said.

Three people in a BMW SUV — a 40-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl — were taken to Condell with injuries that were not life-threatening, Heinz said.

The Lake County sheriff's office is investigating the crash.

Mundelein Fire Department also responded.
