Split decision for Grayslake North

Grayslake North splits: At the ESPN Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., Wednesday, Kayla Switalla and Jessica Vaughn both went 5-for-5 with 2 RBI for the Knights in a 14-4 win over Neenah.

Vaughn doubled twice, while Switalla also had a double and scored 3 runs. Nikki Livengood homered and doubled for Grayslake North. The Knights pounded out 25 hits, with Livengood, Sarah Littleton, Danielle Runyon and Mariah Gentile adding 3 apiece. Littleton and Maddie Terlap had doubles, as well. Kaitlyn Olsen, Gentile and Runyon each stole two bases.

Littleton pitched a five-inning complete game for the win.

Grayslake North also lost to Fenwick 10-1, as it managed only 2 hits, including a double by Terlap.

Vernon Hills loses twice: In Lexington, Ky., Wednesday, the Cougars dropped their first two games of the season, 10-0 to Franklin County and 11-7 to Henry County.

Dana Meline had Vernon Hills' only 2 hits against Franklin County, as she went 2-for-3.

Against Henry County, Sami Saliba homered and drove in 3 runs for the Cougars, and Anna Cirone went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Meline coaxed 3 walks and scored twice.
