Illinois prisoner who escaped gets 11 more years

ROBINSON - An Illinois prisoner who walked away from a work crew last summer has been sentenced to 11 more years in prison.

Illinois Department of Corrections officials report that Jared Carter pleaded guilty Wednesday in Crawford County court. The 31-year-old Carter had been scheduled for release in 2016 after serving 10 years for residential burglary.

He is now housed at the maximum-security Pontiac Correctional Center.

Officials say Carter had a history of good behavior and had been approved to work on a prison-grounds crew outside the walls of Robinson Correctional Center. He left the work crew on Aug. 30.

He was captured in a town about seven miles away on Sept. 3
