Fire damages Des Plaines garage

Des Plaines firefighters responded Wednesday morning to a fire in a detached garage, authorities said.

The two-car garage, located in the backyard of a home on the 900 block of West Villa Drive, was well-involved in flames when firefighters arrived at the residence just after 10 a.m., according to Fire Chief Alan Wax.

The fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes. No injuries were reported.

Wax said the homeowner reported being in the garage earlier in the morning, then went into the house for a while, and later came back outside to find heavy smoke coming from the garage.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze. No cars were in the garage. A cost estimate on total fire damage wasn't immediately available.
