Bring the pooper scooper on walks, people

My dog and I went for a walk at Friendship Park recently. Unfortunately, we had to dodge dog waste not only on the exposed areas of grass, but on the walking path as well.

I'm not putting the blame on the park district employees. The fault goes to the pet owners who decide that the snow will cover the waste hoping that it will dissolve with the Spring thaw.

Pet waste is biodegradable under natural conditions, but the harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites in it can continue to live on.

The pet owners who don't pick up after their dogs will be the first ones to complain when the park districts stop them from walking their dogs in the neighborhood parks, and prevent the responsible owners from having a place to walk their dogs!

Hope Woody
