St. Edward makes it 2-0; Burlington Central wins opener

Chelsea Gnan scored twice for the St. Edward girls soccer team Friday as the Green Wave defeated Lisle 4-0 in a nonconference battle at Olympic Park in Schaumburg.

Controlling possession throughout, Allison Kruk and Alex Zeller also notched goals and Paige Dykstra only had to stave off just 1 shot in net for the Green Wave (2-0).

Burlington Central 3, Byron 0: The Rockets delivered new head coach Massimo Piscopo his first win at the varsity level with goals from Ellen Jayne, Cali Andrew and Rachael Griffin in Big Northern crossover action. Jayne also assisted Griffin's goal in the first half of the Rockets' season debut. Central goalkeeper AnnMarie Hilton had 2 saves.

Lake Zurich 2, Cary-Grove 1: Emma Baker recorded the first goal of the season for the Trojans (0-1), but C-G was unable to come up with the tying goal in the final 12 minutes of a nonconference road loss. Bears goalkeeper Madison Hart stopped 4 Trojan shots while C-G's Morgan Olsen had 4 stops of her own.
