Streamwood police investigating tip on murder suspect

Streamwood police are investigating an anonymous tip that could help identify the man they believe fatally stabbed a gas station clerk a year ago, authorities said Wednesday.

Using a pay phone early March 13, the tipster left information that "could be crucial to identifying" the killer of Anandkumar "Andy" Jaiswal, Streamwood police said in a news release. The anonymous source also indicated a willingness to assist authorities, police said.

Police are seeking more information about the tip and urged the source to contact the department, the release said.

Jaiswal, 24, was stabbed to death early March 16, 2013, as he was working the overnight shift at Thornton's gas station, 2 N. Barrington Road in Streamwood.

Earlier this month, police released new surveillance video of the suspect in an attempt to generate new leads on the one-year-old crime. The brief segment showed a man wearing a hood, mask and dark clothing. Police hope the man's gait and mannerisms in the footage lead to new information on the slaying. He is described as light-skinned and between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information is asked to call Streamwood police at (630) 736-3700. An anonymous tip line is available at (630) 736-3719.
