Nybo winner in 24th Senate District race

Former Republican state Rep. Chris Nybo was an easy winner for the Republican nomination for the senate seat vacated by gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard.

With all of DuPage and Cook County votes unofficially counted, Nybo had 59 percent of the vote in the contest with state Rep. Dennis Reboletti.

Nybo, of Elmhurst, offered praise for Reboletti.

"He was a man I called a friend before we ran this great race, and I intend for that relationship to continue," Nybo said.

He also said he hopes to build on the legacy of Dillard, the man who soundly defeated him for the same senate seat in 2012. Nybo represented the 41st House District from 2011 to 2013 before redistricting forced him out.

"Sen. Kirk Dillard has been a strong moderate Republican voice for the suburbs since he joined the General Assembly," Nybo said Tuesday night. "I hope I can build on that legacy of being a reasonable Republican voice for the near western suburbs."

Nybo will now face Democrat Suzanne Glowiak of Western Springs. The 24th District includes all or parts of Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Villa Park, Westmont, Wheaton and Willowbrook.
