Streamwood High student charged after gun found near campus
A Streamwood High School student has been charged in connection with a handgun found near the campus, authorities said Saturday.
The male student, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon on school grounds, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting/obstructing arrest.
He was taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago Saturday, police said in a news release.
School officials were alerted Friday afternoon of rumors in a classroom of a gun being brought to the school, police said.
The school was placed on lockdown for more than an hour as police and K-9 units from multiple agencies searched the grounds, police said.
The gun was recovered in a residential area just outside the school's property, police said.
No injuries were reported.
