Two charged with abusing 97-year-old woman

Two women face charges of aggravated battery of a person older than 60, accused of physically abusing a 97-year-old resident of the Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles.

Police say the two videotaped the abuse Thursday. The woman was not injured, according to police.

Bail was set at $15,000 apiece Friday for Chemyra Barnett, 18, of the 300 block of Watch Court in Elgin, and Jacqueline T. Santos, 18, of the 1300 block of Timber Lane in South Elgin.

Besides the battery charges, Barnett and Santos were also charged with unlawful videotaping.

All the charges are felonies.

A nursing home administrator called police to the home at 850 Dunham Road Thursday.

Barnett and Santos worked at the home. St. Charles police did not say what their jobs were.

According to court records, the two are accused of striking the woman in the face with a nylon object. They recorded the incident with a cellphone camera.

If the are released on bond, they are ordered to have no contact with the victim; to stay away from the nursing home; to not use their cellphones; and to not disseminate the video, according to court records.

Police ask anyone with more information, or concerns, to call (630) 277-4435.
