Condo unit catches fire in Des Plaines

Des Plaines firefighters blaze a fire Friday evening in an unoccupied condominium that was under renovation.

Firefighters said the call came in around 5:15 p.m. as a fire alarm at a seven-story building at 555 S. River Road in the downtown.

Crews arrived to find smoke in the hallway of the fourth floor.

Firefighters evacuated neighboring units and had the fire out in 15 to 20 minutes.

Firefighters said the unit contained some rags and combustible solvents, which may have started the fire. However, cause is still undetermined.

There were no injuries.
