Readers are leaders at Woodland:

Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50's primary school will host its annual Readers are Leaders Day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, with a second session from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. Students at the primary school in unincorporated Gages Lake will listen to stories read by guests. Those guests also are expected to discuss the importance of reading and learn about various jobs people have in the community. Among the participants expected are representatives from the Gurnee Fire Department, Gurnee Park District, Gurnee Police Department and Warren-Newport Public Library District. "We look forward to this event every year because our students love having guest readers in the classroom," Principal Stacey Anderson said.
