Snow damages roof of N. Aurora Activity Center

A heavy snowfall this year is partially to blame for damaging the roof of the North Aurora Activity Center, causing the center to be closed indefinitely Wednesday, officials said.

The building will remain closed while engineers investigate the structural damage to the roof, at 1 N. Lincolnway, Village Administrator Steve Bosco said in a release.

The building houses the Share and Care Daycare, as well as a gymnasium and rental space.

Aging infrastructure coupled with heavy snowfall this season increased the load on the building, damaging the roof joists on the west side of the building significantly, officials said.

Village officials will determine when the building will reopen after hearing a report on the structural analysis of the entire building and deciding on a possible remediation.
