Three Harper wrestlers earn All-American finishes

Harper's wrestling team finished 16th in the NJCAA tournament in Spokane, Wash., last weekend as three competitors - Jacob Bellis, Blake Santi (Lake Park) and Greg Jacquez (West Aurora) - earned All-American honors.

Bellis finished seventh at 125 pounds for the program's top finish.

Santi (149) and Jacquez (157) finished eighth in their respective classes.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M took home the top team finish.

• The men's basketball season came to a close with a 70-65 loss to Joliet Junior College in the Region IV semifinals.

St. Viator alum Kevin Walsh led the Hawks in the postseason, finishing with 49 points in two playoff games.

Against Joliet, he shot 54 percent from field (7-for-13).

Walsh, a freshman, was named to the all-Region team.

Rock Valley won the Region IV titles in both men's and women's basketball.

• No surprise here, but the Harper baseball team has had its scheduled March 14 opener against Aurora University cancelled.

• Following a single year at Harper in which he competed on both the football and wrestling teams, Adam Chalfant has made a big difference in the Big Ten.

Now wrestling for Indiana, the 285-pounder is preparing for the Big Ten championships in Madison, Wis. He is ranked second in both the conference and nationally.

In his three seasons with IU, Chalfant has a 91-26 record. This season he's 24-2, with wins over national runner-up Mike McMullan of Northwestern and two-time defending champion Tony Nelson of Minnesota.
